The Saint Challenge Day 310 – St. Teresa of Calcutta – September 5

Agnes Bojaxhiu was born in Albania in 1910, the only child of three that survived infancy. She was drawn to Catholicism and foreign missions while at school, and at 18 she said farewell to her mother and joined the Loreto Sisters of Dublin, taking the name Theresa. Assigned to a high school for wealthy girls in Calcutta, she taught classes but could not ignore the poverty around her. While traveling on retreat, she had “a call within a call” and got permission to leave her order and start a new one, the Missionaries of Charity. Working with limitless energy for the next 40 years, Mother Theresa served the poor, orphans, alcoholics, homeless, dying, and destitute and inspired people around the world to do the same.

CHALLENGE

St. Teresa of Calcutta said: “Wash the plate not because it is dirty nor because you are told to wash it, but because you love the person who will use it next.” Living our faith is more than just following rules, it’s about following our heart to serve others and see Jesus in everyone we meet. Listen for God to reveal to you his “call within a call”. How can you reach out and wash the plate of others today?
