The Saint Challenge Day 25 – Blessed Beatrice d’Ornacieux – November 25

Beatrice d’Ornacieux was born in 1260 in southeastern France to noble parents. She joined the Carthusian order at the age of thirteen. Carthusians live a solitary life of silence and introspection, dedicated to pure contemplation of Christ. She founded a new cloistered monastery where she and the other Carthusians lived in extreme poverty. Over her years she experienced many visions and ecstasies, and also many temptations and encounters with the devil who attempted to destroy her virtue.

CHALLENGE

Blessed Beatrice so loved tribulations that drew her closer to Christ and his Passion that one day she hammered a nail through her left hand to help her understand the pains of the Crucifixion. Driving a nail through your hand is not the challenge for today, but your challenge is to get a nail and carry it in your pocket. When you feel temptation, reach for the nail and think of Christ.
