Laverius was born in the 3rd Century to pagan parents in Italy. He joined the Roman army, then converted to Christianity and began to preach in the streets. For this, he was arrested and publicly tortured, then ordered to make a sacrifice to the pagan gods. When he refused, he was drug to an amphitheater where he was thrown to wild animals to be eaten. Instead, the beasts lay down at his feet. The Romans threw Laverius back into prison, but an angel freed him. He went to another town and baptized and converted many people before being arrested again and flogged. During his torture, he tried to convert his torturers. Fed up, the Romans martyred him.
CHALLENGE
Once St. Laverius was converted, he couldn’t stop sharing the Gospel. Today, every time someone asks you how you’re doing, answer: “Blessed” and if the conversation gives you an opportunity to share your faith, say a quick prayer to the Holy Spirit to give you the right words and be sure to answer the call.
