The Saint Challenge Day 170 – Blessed Andrés Hibernón Real – April 18

Blessed Andrés Hibernón Real was born in Spain in 1534. His family was from a long line of the noble class, but a series of unfortunate events led to them being reduced to poverty. When he was old enough he worked to support his family, sometimes being away from home for long periods. After saving up a large sum to pay for his sister’s marriage, he was robbed on his way home to deliver the money. Andrés saw it as a sign from God that he was too focused on material wealth, so at the age of 22, he joined the Franciscans. He spent the rest of his life doing manual labor at the friaries, helping parish priests with catechesis, and feeding the poor, sometimes by miraculously multiplying loaves of bread. He died in 1602 after completing the Rosary.

CHALLENGE

In addition to spending many hours in Eucharistic adoration, Blessed Andrés Hibernón Real also frequently prayed at Marian shrines. There are Marian shrines all over the world, and there’s probably one not too far away from you. Today, plan a visit to a Marian shrine near you, and ask your family and friends how you can pray for them when you visit.
