The Saint Challenge Day 8 – Blessed John Duns Scotus – November 8

Born in Scotland to a wealthy farmer in 1266, John Duns Scotus quickly acted upon his calling to religious life and was ordained in 1291. He used his considerable intellect to study and preach, lecturing at Cambridge, Oxford, and in Paris, where he received his doctorate. His theological work defending the Immaculate Conception of Mary was so good that Pope Pius IX drew from it when he declared the Immaculate Conception as an official dogma of the Catholic Church 250 years later.

CHALLENGE

The Immaculate Conception of Mary is one of the four Marian dogmas of the Catholic Church that non-Catholics frequently attack. Today, spend some time on your own looking up the reasons why the Catholic Church teaches this and be ready to defend it. For a real challenge, prepare yourself to defend all four Marian dogmas.
