The Saint Challenge Day 130 – St. Frances of Rome – March 9

Born in Rome in 1384 to a wealthy family, Frances inherited her father’s strong will and her mother’s strong faith and by the age of 11, she knew she wanted to be a nun. Her father, however, had promised her hand in marriage to another nobleman’s son. She resisted but eventually consented, and her husband was loving and devoted. Despite living in wealth and extravagance, Frances was miserable and desired a quiet life of prayer. She found out that her sister-in-law had the same desire, and when the two weren’t tending to family obligations, they lived their pious calling together by going to Mass, visiting prisoners, serving in hospitals, and praying in a secret chapel. She became an Oblate of St. Benedict, founded her own order that served the poor, was given many visions of hell and Purgatory, and performed several miracles through prayer.

CHALLENGE

St. Frances of Rome was given an archangel for her guardian angel, and she formed a deep relationship with him. Her last words were, “The angel has finished his task, he beckons me to follow him.” Today, begin forming a relationship with your guardian angel by praying to him every day.
