The Saint Challenge Day 149 – St. Joseph Sebastian Pelczar – March 28

Born in 1842 in Poland, Joseph Sebastian Pelczar was surrounded by a pious family. He entered the seminary at 18, was ordained four years later, then earned his doctorate in theology and became a canon lawyer. From there he served as a student-oriented professor at the seminary, dean of theology, and rector at the University of Krakow. His boundless energy also saw him serve with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, publish and write over a thousand books, start hundreds of libraries, and deliver free lectures. But he didn’t stop there. He founded the Fraternity of Our Lady, Queen of the Polish Crown, co-founded the Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, and labored to spread the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He died in 1924 at the age of 82.
