The Saint Challenge Day 17 – St. Elizabeth of Hungary – November 17

The daughter of King Andrew, Elizabeth of Hungary was born in 1207 and married at the age of 13. Her castle was at the top of a mountain, and she had a hospital built at the foot of it. Despite the objections of her family, she personally helped the patients in the hospital, frequently bringing them bread and caring for them. During a famine in neighboring Germany, she gave a large gift of grain to the country. When her husband the prince died, she sold all her possessions, gave the money away, and worked a job to support her four children.

CHALLENGE

Locate a homeless shelter or soup kitchen near you, and bring them a donation of bread, rolls, or bagels. If there are no homeless shelters or soup kitchens nearby, bring some baked goods to an elderly neighbor, nursing home, or assisted living facility. If the Holy Spirit moves you, spend some time with the people there, talking to them and lifting their spirits.
