The Saint Challenge Day 174 – Blessed Francesco of Fabriano – April 22

In 1251, Francesco Venimbeni was born in Italy to a wealthy family. His father was a doctor, and both parents were shining examples of living their faith as they piously helped the poor and the sick. By the age of 10, Francesco was reciting the Divine Office daily and was fluent in Latin. After studying philosophy and humanities, with his parents’ joyful approval he was admitted to the Franciscan order and threw himself into theological studies. With his father’s financial help, he purchased a vast library of theological books, which he called “the best workshop in the convent”. He insisted that the friars study intently to maintain orthodox preaching, and he was renowned for his preaching as well as his theological influence within the order.

CHALLENGE

In addition to prayer, reading, and preaching, Blessed Francesco of Fabriano also found time to frequently offer Masses for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Today, think of a departed soul and schedule a Mass to be said for them. Then recite the Chaplet of the Dead and Litany for Holy Souls in their memory.
