The Saint Challenge Day 18 – St. Romano of Antioch – November 18

Romano of Antioch was a deacon in the early 4th Century, right when Emperor Diocletian began his persecution of Christians. To avoid persecution, many Christians would participate in idol worship or give sacrifices to idols. Romano preached boldly against the “go along to get along” behavior of his fellow Christians and encouraged them to stand firm in their faith. For this, he was arrested, had his tongue cut out, was tortured, and martyred.

CHALLENGE

In our workplace, our neighborhood, or within our own families we often face persecution for what we believe. Today, prayerfully consider what “go along to get along” behavior you’re engaging in. Then make a solemn vow to stand firm in your faith the next time you face persecution for standing up for your faith. Finally, pray to the Holy Spirit for the gift of courage.
