The Saint Challenge Day 182 – St. Marie of the Incarnation Guyart – April 30

Born in France in 1599, Marie Guyart’s devout parents ran a successful bakery. Growing up she received a strong foundation in the faith and a hands-on education in running a business. At the age of seven, she received her first mystical vision, and at 14 she told her parents she wanted to be a nun, but instead, her parents arranged her marriage. She gave birth to a son but was widowed after only two years. When her son was ten, she had another vision, entrusted her son to her sister, and left to become an Ursuline nun. After another vision, she raised funds and left to found the first Ursuline mission in Canada. She spoke four Native American languages fluently and spread the Gospel with tender love and compassion.

CHALLENGE

A prolific correspondent, St. Marie of the Incarnation Guyart wrote over 12,000 letters and over 300 of them still exist today. They include letters to her son, who became a Benedictine monk. In this day of electronic communications, letters are even more precious to the recipient because they take time, effort, and more thought. Is there someone and a subject that is weighing heavily on your heart? Today, write them a letter.
