The youngest of 11 children, Arcangelo Tadini was born in 1846 to a family of nobles in Italy. At 18 he entered the seminary, and an accident while there resulted in a broken knee and a lifelong limp. Despite this, Fr. Arcangelo seemed unstoppable. He threw himself into making his parish the center of the community’s spiritual and material needs. He used his inheritance to build a spinning mill that employed single women and used the profits to build housing for them. Fr. Arcangelo also set up a soup kitchen, set up support services for workers, organized several confraternities and catechesis programs, and spent hours standing in Eucharistic adoration.
CHALLENGE
St. Arcangelo Tadini became a priest largely because he was introduced to the vocation of the priesthood by his older brother who was a priest. Being an altar boy is often the gateway to the priesthood as the boys learn the rubrics and the duties of the priest. Today, as the Church is dealing with a decline in vocations, contact your parish to find out how you can help support those who are interested in serving at Mass.
