The Saint Challenge Day 212 – St. Joan of Arc – May 30

Born in France in 1412, Joan d’Arc was one of five children of wealthy and devout peasants. She was a very pious child who would kneel in church for long periods, absorbed in prayer. When she was 13, she began to hear voices and then had visions of various saints, and of St. Michael the Archangel and other angels. She eventually followed their direction and convinced the French army commander, then the king, to allow her to lead the French army against the English. Under her direction the French recaptured Orléans and Troyes. She was captured, sold to the British, and placed on trial. Joan bravely stood trial for 70 charges, was erroneously found guilty of heresy, and was burned at the stake at the age of 19 crying out the name, “Jesus”.

CHALLENGE

During her trial, St. Joan of Arc said, “Since God had commanded it, it was necessary that I do it.” When God asks us to do big things, sometimes we feel ill-equipped. Today, consider what big thing God is asking you to do, resolve to say “yes”, then pray for the faith to trust that he’ll give you the graces necessary to do the job.
