The Saint Challenge Day 216 – St. Charles Lwanga – June 3

Charles Lwanga was born in Uganda in 1865. By the time he was a teenager, Charles had heard and accepted the Gospel message from missionaries and became a catechumen. He continued to live the Gospel even after the missionaries were kicked out of the country. The new king’s chief-in-charge, who had taken over teaching the catechism, appointed 19-year-old Charles the supervisor of the king’s errand boys and baptized him. The king tried to force the errand boys to do immoral things, and for months the chief-in-charge and Charles Lwanga kept interfering and teaching the errand boys the Gospel. In the end, Charles Lwanga and 21 others were martyred for their faith.

CHALLENGE

St. Charles Lwanga was so convinced of the Gospel message that when he was put in the situation of being made the sheepdog, he laid down his life for his sheep, and his faith. The Protecting God’s Children program has resources to help people be good sheepdogs. Today, visit the resource page at www.virtusonline.org and spend some time learning how you can be a better sheepdog.
