The Saint Challenge Day 217 – Blessed Stanisław Kostka Starowieyski – June 4

Born in Poland in 1895, Stanisław Starowieyski was born into a wealthy political family, who were very active Catholics. He became a decorated veteran of World War I and then the Polish-Ukranian War before returning to civilian life as a farm manager. In 1921 he got married, and the couple moved into a war-damaged estate given to them by Stanisław’s father-in-law, but rather than use their money to rebuild the estate, they lived in a small building on the property, gave generously to the poor, and raised six children. After housing refugees during World War II, he was arrested by the Nazis for being a Catholic leader, and sent to Dachau where he died.

CHALLENGE

Blessed Stanisław Kostka Starowieyski was a model for living a vibrant Catholic life. He went to daily Mass, organized retreats and pilgrimages, visited orphans, and in the concentration camps he cared for the spiritual needs of other prisoners. It’s easy to make excuses for not living a lively Catholic life. Today prayerfully make a list of your excuses, and make a plan to replace excuses with action.
