The Saint Challenge Day 26 – St. Bellinus of Padua – November 26

Not much is known about the early life of Bellinus of Padua, other than he was born in Italy in the late 11th Century to a noble family. He became a priest, and eventually a bishop. He reformed the clergy of his diocese, improved the reputation of the Church within the community, and defended the rights of the Church against secular threats. After an earthquake in 1117, he worked to rebuild the cathedral that was destroyed. To the disadvantage of the noble families of the area, he was very successful at building up the Church. One of these families hired assassins who murdered him one day on his way to Rome.

CHALLENGE

In addition to his other great contributions to the Church and his diocese, St. Bellinus of Padua was also credited with the construction of many schools that served the education needs of their communities. Today, contact a local Catholic school and ask how you can help them in their mission with your time, talent, or treasure.
