A fisherman born in Galilee, St. Andrew was a follower of St. John the Baptist. He became the first apostle to follow Jesus after immediately recognizing him as the Christ. The first person he led to Christ was his brother, Simon Peter, and he spent the rest of his life bringing people to the Lord. After the Resurrection, St. Andrew became a missionary in Asia Minor and Greece. When he was told that he was to be crucified, he asked that his cross be in the form of an “X” since he was unworthy to die in the same manner as Christ. During the two days he hung there, he never stopped preaching until he breathed his last.
CHALLENGE
As a Greek speaker, St. Andrew served as an interpreter for Jesus just before the Passion. Speaking to others in a language they understand is essential to spreading the Gospel message. Today, spend at least half an hour in prayer and contemplation about how you can translate the Gospel message into the language of your peers who need to hear it. Be prepared for your next opportunity to share the Gospel.
