The Saint Challenge Day 46 – Blessed Sebastian Maggi – December 16

Sebastian Maggi was born in 1414 in Italy and joined the Dominicans at 15. He rose to be prior of several convents and twice served as vicar general of his province. He was a strict rule-follower and gave himself great mortifications. Despite being hard on himself, he looked kindly upon others. He told his friars, “When you have committed a fault, come to me, not as Prior, but as your father. If you will not have me as a father, you will find me a severe judge.” For the friars who heeded his words and came to him on their own to admit guilt, he was known to be merciful and conceal their faults from others.

CHALLENGE

It’s good to have a high personal standard, but it’s prideful to expect the same out of others. Remember that not everyone else can reach the same standard you set for yourself. Today, begin the transformation of your heart by being patient and kind to everyone you interact with: especially workers at stores and restaurants. Give them a smile and a kind word.
