Frances Xavier Cabrini was born to a large Italian family in 1850. She longed to be a missionary, but two different religious orders rejected her. She taught the catechism, worked with the poor, taught at a nearby school, and ran an orphanage. In 1880 at the urging of her bishop, she founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. In 1889 she began a mission trip to the United States and worked in immigrant communities. In her 28 years in the United States, Mother Cabrini became a US citizen and opened 67 institutions in six cities, including schools, orphanages, and hospitals.

Mother Cabrini said, “Why leave hidden and buried so many beautiful gifts with which the Lord has endowed you, and not employ them rather for the benefit of those who do not know the true God?” Today, spend at least half an hour in prayer and discern what gifts God has given you and how you can best use them for the benefit of those who do not know the true God.
