Selected as Archbishop of Constantinople in 336, St. Paul the Confessor spoke out against the Arian heresy and was exiled in 337. He came back a year later, and the Arians once again sent him into exile. He waited two years and came back. This time, Emperor Constantius chained him up and exiled him once more. Four years later, he came back to his diocese, and one last time he was exiled and eventually murdered to keep him from coming back to his diocese a fourth time.
CHALLENGE
St. Paul the Confessor spent most of his time in exile away from his flock. But that didn’t keep him from loving them and trying to return to them. Is there a friend or family member who keeps pushing you into exile? Commit to keep praying for them. Today, decide on a prayer to say for that person every day, and pick a specific time of the day to pray for them.
