The Saint Challenge Day 87 – St. Timothy – January 26

Born in present-day Turkey around the year 17 AD, St. Timothy had a Greek Gentile father and a Jewish mother. His mother was an early convert to Christianity, and by the time St. Paul made his second visit to his town, St. Timothy was highly esteemed by the local Christians. St. Paul asked St. Timothy to join him and spread the Gospel and St. Timothy agreed. He was consecrated as a priest, accompanied St. Paul on his journeys, and co-wrote five of St. Paul’s epistles. He eventually became the bishop of Ephesus, where tradition says St. John and the Blessed Virgin Mary lived until Mary’s death and assumption, which it is said St. Timothy witnessed first-hand. He died a martyr in the year 97AD.

CHALLENGE

When St. Paul was forced to flee Berea because of the hatred of the Jews there, St. Timothy remained behind to baptize, organize, and confirm the new converts in the faith. Today, contact your parish and offer your time, talent, and treasure to help parents prepare their children to receive the sacraments of Baptism or Confirmation.
