St. Thomas the Apostle, also known as Didymus, was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. He was a dedicated follower, but sometimes said things impulsively. Because of his unwillingness to believe the testimony of the other disciples who had seen the risen Christ, he gave rise to the expression “Doubting Thomas.” After the ascension of Christ, he went on to spread the Gospel to the Parthians, Medes, and Persians, eventually reaching India where he eventually died. Saint Thomas is the patron saint of builders, architects, India, Sri Lanka, and Pula, Croatia.
