The Saint Challenge Day 32 – Blessed Maria Angela Astorch – December 2

Born in Barcelona, Spain in 1592, Maria Angela Astorch entered the Capuchin Poor Clare monastery at the age of 11. She was forced to wait until she was 16 before she could become a novitiate and took her vows a year later. She eventually became an abbess and went on to found and run her own monastery. She could see and communicate with her guardian angel, and she had a deep devotion to studying sacred texts. Maria Angela also had a deep devotion to reciting the Divine Office, also known as the Breviary.

CHALLENGE

The Breviary is a schedule of daily prayer that all priests and some religious orders recite eight times throughout the day. Today, find the readings for today’s breviary and recite the nighttime prayer—called Compline—which is said at bedtime. For a real challenge, try adding the Divine Office or parts of it to your daily routine.
