The Saint Challenge Day 51 – Blessed Anton Durcovici – December 21

In 1888 Anton Durcovici was born in Austria. His father died when he was young, and his mother moved the family to Romania where he was confirmed and became an altar server. He eventually earned two doctorate degrees before he was given a waiver for his young age and was ordained at 22. Fluent in seven languages, Fr. Anton taught seminarians and served as rector until his consecration as bishop. After World War II, he became a vocal opponent of the Communists in Romania. He was arrested in 1949, then tortured, starved, and locked naked in a freezing cold jail cell in the middle of winter… and left to die.

CHALLENGE

“He that has two coats, let him give to him that has none.” Blessed Anton Durcovici froze to death in the harsh Romanian winter, but you can help others from suffering a similar fate. Today, pick one gently-worn coat you no longer need. Then go to onewarmcoat.org and drop it off at a collection location near you. If you live in a warmer climate, make a donation instead.
