The Saint Challenge Day 160 – St. Marie-Rose Julie Billiart – April 8

Born in France in 1751, Marie-Rose Julie Billiart had wealthy parents with a strong faith that they taught their seven children. She suffered through the death of several siblings, family financial problems, an attempt to kill her father, and a mysterious illness that caused her legs to be paralyzed. Through it all, her faith radiated from her, and people would come to visit her in her bed to receive her spiritual direction. During the French Revolution, she was hunted because she helped priests, and her friends helped her to escape. After a brief loss of speech, she was given an ecstatic vision and a mission. In 1803 she founded the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur with the mission of educating poor children.
