The Saint Challenge Day 299 – St. Genesius of Rome – August 25

During the reign of Emperor Diocletian in the 3rd Century, Christians weren’t just martyred, but they were ridiculed by the Romans. In the year 303, Genesius was one of the entertainers in the emperor’s court and he decided to put on a little comedy routine making fun of the Christian rite of baptism. With one of the other actors playing the part of a deacon, Genesius played the part of the catechumen. As the water was poured over him and the words of Christian baptism recited, Genesius had a miraculous conversion on the spot. Diocletian and the court thought it was part of the act and laughed… until they realized Genesius was no longer acting. Ordered by Diocletian to renounce the Christian faith, Genesius refused… and was beheaded.

CHALLENGE

St. Genesius of Rome may not have set out looking for salvation in the waters of baptism, but God went looking for him. Baptism is the first and most important step in the life of a Christian. Today, re-orient yourself toward God by renewing your baptism vows. Then pray a Rosary for your Godparents and any Godchildren you may have.
